Power Shift 2007

This November 2-5, thousands of people of all ages converged on Washington, D.C. for Power Shift 2007, the first national youth summit to solve the climate crisis. Register for Power Shift 2007!

  1. Making the U.S. Presidential candidates and Congress take global warming seriously- We have the opportunity to drastically affect the 2008 Presidential Election and ensure our next president puts us on a path to stopping climate change.
  2. Empowering a truly diverse network of young leaders- We must diversify our movement to include every community in America and shift our culture towards one of sustainability and justice for everyone, overcoming traditional racial, ethnic, geographic, and ideological divisions.
  3. Achieving broad geographic diversity- We want this convergence to represent nearly every Congressional district in the U.S. in order to demand scientifically based solutions.

Voter Registration at Power Shift

Earth Day Network offered the thousands of student activists attending Power Shift 2007 tools to help them spread the message of civic participation and empowerment to their friends and colleagues back home. EDN, in conjunction with Wellstone Action!, an organization dedicated to leadership training and development for the progressive movement, will conduct voter registration and mobilization training specifically tailored for energizing the youth vote. Dozens of the student activists attended the trainings to gain civic skills that will be viral and long lasting.
